Bergamo, beautiful city! Located in the heart of Lombardy, the city center of Bergamo is 5km far from the international airport of Milan Orio and 90km from Malpensa Airport.
We suggest some different itinerary:
The “alternative” Bergamo in the peaceful atmosphere of the cloisters: It is difficult to know just how many monasteries Bergamo has had throughout the course of its history…
Bergamo and its funicular railways: at a time when there were no cars, travellers to Bergamo would be pleasantly surprised at the ease with which they could visit the city….
Bergamo half day guided tour: the city is divided into two parts: the Upper Town, which is reached by cable car, whose medieval and Renaissance buildings huddle on top of a hill, and Bergamo Bassa, with its modern neighbourhoods. With a local guide, discover the Upper Town: Old Town Square, which is the heart of Old Town, is dominated by the Tower of the twelfth century, the library of the late sixteenth century and the Palace of Reason, was founded in 1199 and rebuilt several times. Then you reach the Piazza del Duomo to visit the Colleoni Chapel built in 1476 to house the tombs of the mercenary commander Bartolomeo Colleoni and his daughter Medea, then you can admire the Romanesque Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, which contains a striking baroque decoration.

Adda River, Leonardo's river and Crespi d'Adda Village
It is said that even Leonardo da Vinci was inspired by the magnificent countryside along the Adda River for one of his paintings, when he stayed near Paderno as a guest of the Sforza family. In this area, rocks known also as the “Corni della Vergine” (Horns of the Virgin) emerge from the rapids, and it is thought that the great artist used these for the background of his “Virgin of the Rocks”. The Adda and its banks, in particular the towpath, offer the ideal environment for outings on foot, by bike or on horseback. The Bergamask section of the river has features of particular interest such as the ferry of Villa d’Adda, which is still in operation and it was made by Leonardo ….
The Ferry-monument: you really feel as if you had stepped back in time when you watch the small engineless ferry cross between the Villa d’Adda and Imbersago…
Crespi d’Adda Village Late 19th century workers’ village:
The Crespi d'Adda Village (Crespi Workers' Village) is an entire town, built entirely by the will of the owner of the factory for his
workers and their families.
The workers were provided with homes, gardens, vegetable gardens and all necessary local services. The Village of Crespi is still inhabited. There are no formal entrances or opening hours.
The Village of Crespi can be visited with a guide. Our guided visits are led by professional guides, living in Crespi; presentation: the Factory of Crespi and the industrial revolution;
maps of the Village for all the participants.
